This week, I've been enjoying watching Mueller moving forward with his strategy of taking down Trump like the Mob boss he is, with the developments in the Manafort and Cohen prosecutions.

Meanwhile, this video of Trump at the G20 is surely all the evidence needed for someone to invoke section 4 of the 25th amendment. And for a little light relief, enjoy this video of It Wasn't Me, Re-released for Trump.

It's been quiet in the comm this week, but there's still some run-off election action to get involved in, and plenty of ongoing actions.

Yesterday was the March for Our Lives on gun control led by the Parkland shooting survivors who are a great inspiration to me right now. I was unable to go due to a family commitment, but if you did go, [personal profile] rachelmanija  has a post about her experience where you can share yours. In all the coverage, I found this article from Vox about closing the passion gap between who politicians hear from on gun issues one of the most illuminating. The bottom line: on guns the voters they hear from are anti-restriction gun owners. They are not punished at the voting booth for "thoughts and prayers." If you regularly call your state and federal representatives, or even if you just want to contact them about gun control now, consider adding gun control to the list of topics.

In the comm, we've been carrying on with [personal profile] elucidate_this's great idea for Giving up on Giving Up for Lent. Thanks to [personal profile] nanila for making this week's Check in Post #3, and to the members who've inspired us by sharing what they're doing. Lent ends in 1 week. If there is an action that you've been meaning to do, consider trying to do it this week.

From It's Time To Fight:
Ok, I think all you have to do is go online, and get a sense of why this is not great news. Yes, we all think Comey's a wanker who definitely helped influence the election negatively.

With that being said, we're not all outraged right now FOR Comey. I keep seeing people on the left and the right make this mistake. We're outraged over:

1) Why Comey was fired,
2) What it means that POTUS abused his powers like this.
3) Trump flat-out lied in his letter, and is trying to fool the masses.
(It's Time To Fight also has a copy of Trump's -- gobsmacking -- letter, if you haven't seen it yet, as well as other useful links and information.)

Contact your representatives. Here's a suggested script (also from It's Time To Fight):
You: Hi, [my name is] and I’m calling from [zip code].

You: I’m asking [MoC/Senator] to push for a special prosecutor and an independent commission to investigate the Trump Administration.

You: The firing of Director Comey was a clearly a partisan act, based on false reasons. This reinforces the idea that we are in need of non-partisan investigations, urgently.

You: Please support this effort, and do what you can using the Ethics in Government Act. Please do what you can. Thanks. [hang up]
A group are also working on organising marches/demonstrations for Saturday 3rd June to:
call for an impartial investigation into Russian interference in the US election and ties to Donald Trump, his administration and his associates.

Update on the Russia story from The Guardian:

The December memo alleged that four Trump representatives travelled to Prague in August or September in 2016 for “secret discussions with Kremlin representatives and associated operators/hackers”, about how to pay hackers secretly for penetrating Democratic party computer systems and “contingency plans for covering up operations”.

Between March and September, the December memo alleges, the hackers used botnets and porn traffic to transmit viruses, plant bugs and steal data online from Democratic party leadership. Two of the hackers had been “recruited under duress by the FSB” the memo said. The hackers were paid by the Trump organisation, but were under the control of Vladimir Putin’s presidential administration.

The Trump Campaign Has Been Under Investigation Since July

From The New Yorker:

"For the White House, which in recent weeks has urged intelligence and law-enforcement officials to parrot its skepticism about the “Russian story,” Comey’s public acknowledgement of the probe makes it all but impossible to meddle again without risking serious political and legal consequences."

20 years from now there will be a movie about this. Oily fellow sex offender Casey Affleck will play Trump. Unless, god willing, they're sharing a cell together.

Also, I proposed setting up something like Topic Teams in case people wanted to organize into smaller groups to track one topic. Is there interest in that? If so, I'll set up a post. That may also be easier to then be able to track what other resistence groups are doing with respect to each topic and what may be most useful in terms of putting pressure on politicians. Thoughts?
