The Autistic Self-Advocacy Network periodically makes plain-language videos explaining important topics, and they're always really good. They just uploaded a whole series on structural racism. If you need a basic but thorough primer on the subject for yourself or someone else, they're excellent. Besides being helpful for people with disabilities, they should also be a useful supplement for your kids if your local school district is trying to get rid of any mentions of racism in the curriculum. All the examples are US focused because ASAN is a US group, so it might not be much help to people in other countries, sorry.

This is from an email I received from Youth Justice and Power Union, but it looks like they have a lot of sponsors:

Message for 2021:
We are in the midst of a national uprising that is calling on us to be steadfast in our defense of Black lives.
Last year, we launched the Defund Boscops campaign, giving the Boston City Council and Mayor the opportunity to join us in taking action. Their response was to placate our demands with cuts to overtime and shuffling money around within the police department.
This year, we demand accountability. The call to action remains the same: defund the police, invest in our communities.

There's a rally on Saturday June 26 at City Hall, and phone banking on June 23-24 at noon.

Autumn Gupta and Bryanna Wallace have created this very useful guide to action in June. It's designed to be manageable chunks of information and action for White and non-Black allies/accomplices to integrate into their daily lives. There was a lot of labor put into this and it shows. I highly recommend that those wishing to practice allyship, especially those who are relatively new to active engagement or who are feeling close to burnt-out already, take a look.

Justice in June the spreadsheet resides here.

Gupta and Wallace are also running a fundraiser here to extend similar services past June.

For those like me, who need things split out from the google docs to help combat overwhelm, here are links to Bail Funds that are supporting the Black Lives Matter protests, as well as keeping folks out of jail while there's a pandemic on.

Act Blue will split your donation among their list or you can donate to specific funds.

List of Individual bail funds by city and state (similar list to Act Blue but with direct links to the organization webpages).

It's a good idea to check the fund webpage before donating because there has been a lot of support and they may redirect you to another fund. That said, I did a one time donation to the group supported by Act Blue then set up monthly donations to the fund in my state.

Please share if you have other lists you've found helpful.

The focus in the comm for the last couple of weeks has been on refugee and immigrant detentions and the appalling treatment and conditions in the camps. We have lots of ongoing actions -- see the links below.

Also, why not tell us in the comments what you've been doing? (Were you able to go to a MoveOn protest?) We can admire and applaud your efforts -- and maybe get inspired to get involved with your causes as well.

Mike Espy remains the underdog, but Republicans with access to private polling say Hyde-Smith’s lead has narrowed significantly in recent days. Republicans need only to look to Alabama, where Doug Jones pulled out a surprise win last year, to stoke concern

With link to WaPo: In Mississippi, Republican concern rises over a U.S. Senate runoff that should have been a romp

This is who Cindy Hyde-Smith is:

Cindy Hyde-Smith on voter suppression: "And then they remind me, that there's a lot of liberal folks in those other schools who that maybe we don't want to vote. Maybe we want to make it just a little more difficult. And I think that's a great idea." (with video)

Election day is almost upon us! And there's encouraging news about how some of the elections on the various slates are tightening to within the margin of error.

We also have a post where you can wave your hipster credentials and tell us about how you knew candidates "before they were famous".

So time for the final push! We've had plenty of suggestions for last-minute donations and actions, as well as a few things to keep going with once the results are in. As well as voting yourself (if you haven't done so already), we also have suggestions for effective ways to encourage the people you know to vote.

(We'll be making a couple of posts on Tuesday as well, so you can let us know how things are going where you are on the day.)

Upcoming Elections - Encouraging others to vote

Excellent thread on effective voter contact
Encourage your friends to vote with VoteWithMe app
Motivote sort of "gamifies" the midterm voting process (you sign up at the site and as you complete various actions to prepare to vote, you're entered to win prizes.)

Upcoming Elections - Where to donate
New this week: Getcha Last Donations In
GiveSmart Women (slate number 4!)
Maximize your donating efficiency with SCIENCE! (yes, it's another slate)
More Slates!
And Now There's Give Smart 3!Matching Donations for the Great Slate
If you fancy some long shots in your rage-donating

AT&T have now definitely ended their support for Steve King, no more "re-evaluating" for the future (source).

Still remaining:

[twitter.com profile] Pinboard: Now that Intel, Purina, AT&T, Land O'Lakes, Smithfield, Black Hills Energy and the NRCC have dropped Steve King, his last significant donors are @Koch_Industries, @ValeroEnergy, Berkshire Hathaway, and @CrystalSugarCo. Curious to hear from them about their corporate values.

As has been pointed out, it's utter bullshit that all these companies are pretending that they just suddenly this second noticed that Steve King is a white supremacist who hangs out with and endorses Nazis and has done for years.

This is happening because of public pressure, and the public pressure is working. So if you can tweet at or e-mail the companies still supporting King, that'd be a good thing.

In related news, the Great Slate (which includes Steve King's opponent J.D. Scholten) has more matching funds.
rydra_wong: The display board of a train reads "this train is fucked". (this train is fucked)
[personal profile] rydra_wong
[twitter.com profile] JuddLegum is following the money and looking at donors to the PAC that's just dumped some money into Steve King's campaign (after the recent outrage over him, so no-one can claim ignorance):

https://twitter.com/JuddLegum/status/1057632518101483521

And ATT have said they won't donate more money to King now (which is more-or-less meaningless at this point), will "re-evaluate" for 2019:

https://twitter.com/JuddLegum/status/1057723559018201089
rydra_wong: Grasshopper mouse stands on its hind legs to howl. (turn venom into painkillers)
[personal profile] rydra_wong
Intel and now Land O'Lakes have pulled funding from him after pressure (because he's an overt white nationalist who hangs out with and endorses Nazis):

Bloomberg: Land O’Lakes Pulls Support for Iowa Congressman Steve King Over Racial Remarks

[twitter.com profile] JuddLegum is keeping track and linking to companies that are still funding him: https://twitter.com/JuddLegum/status/1057299815443390469

ETA: Aaaaand Purina's out.

Meanwhile, a recent poll has King's opponent J. D. Scholten within a point of him, FiveThirtyEight have significantly changed their odds, and the Cook Report has switched IA-4 from "likely Republican" to "lean Republican".
rydra_wong: The display board of a train reads "this train is fucked". (this train is fucked)
[personal profile] rydra_wong
Then here's a fun game that you, the viewer, can play along with at home!

https://twitter.com/JuddLegum/status/1056607869712371714

https://twitter.com/JuddLegum/status/1056902024732782593

Judd Legum is trying to find out why ATT and other companies gave money to overt white supremacist and friend of neo-Nazis Congressman Steve King. Funnily enough, he's having a hard time getting answers from them. He thinks maybe other people might have better luck.
