It's been a little quiet around here as the Minority President's administration has become the new normal and has stopped blowing up in a big way every other day. Or that's my impression anyway.

I'm still using ResistBot to tell my Congress people that I support Obamacare and that healthcare should be a right. But I'm starting to feel a little stale on that topic, so I'm probably going to start talking about my support for the EPA because I like clean air and clean water.

I was wondering what other issues folks are talking to their Congress people about. What's near and dear to your heart?

I'd use ResistBot too, if only immigrants like me were allowed to participate...thanks for keeping the faith. (I do things I'm allowed, like Marching For Science and such.)

This week, I called and talked to them about the ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017 (H.R. 620) and the ADA Lawsuit Clarification Act of 2017 (H.R. 1493) which would break parts of the ADA. (DailyKos, with links)

I've also been bugging them about the Russia investigations and making sure we don't let up on that.

Healthcare. The budget. Not cutting programs. Taxes. The budget. Healthcare. Education. The stupid wall idea and the budget. Mar-a-Lago. War-mongering. Social security. :P

I usually use issues (and scripts) from The 65 website, from no funding the border wall to healthcare to marriage equality and so on.

I really want to ask my representative about how he plans on protecting transgender people, but I'm debating if I want to out myself to him in the process so he can't just say "oh they don't really exist", but he's also part of the "Freedom" Caucus and may not be trusted to even listen at all.

Healthcare is the big one that I use ResistBot for. I also contacted my Senators about North Korea today because of the briefing they just had at the White House. If I'm stumped on a topic or need more info to craft a message, I use 5 Calls to get an idea what other people are calling about.

(Which reminds me: I live in Nevada, so I really should get in touch with people about Yucca Mountain...)

I keep an eye on my various feeds, and when a specific bill or issue comes up that I have something to say about, I just grab my phone and do it. This is one of the things I really love about ResistBot -- it turns contacting my Congresscritters into an impulse action. I usually have 3 sentences in roughly the format:

I oppose [Bill X] because it will cause harm to [affected group or issue]. People in [my state] will be affected in [ways]. I expect you to vote against this bill when it comes to the floor.

There's significant variance, of course, because I don't want everything I send to look or sound alike. But the general format of state opposition, provide examples, request a no vote works really well for me. Think of it as a chained set of 3 tweets. :-)

I just used Resistbot to remind my reps that I oppose any funding for a border wall, and included that such a wall would be harmful to wildlife migrations.

Resistbot told me that as an "elite member of the resistance" I can now use the bot to send postal mail to my representatives. I don't like the idea of an "elite" here, but more to the point, I'm not sending postal mail because it takes so long to be processed. Can anyone think of an advantage to paper over faxing here?

I also glance at the news - it can be sadly very inspiring. Today's letter was about the “Working Families Flexibility Act” (H.R. 1180 / S. 801).

Because it adds NO flexibility they don't already have - for the worker - and lets the company defer overtime payment if the worker agrees (and if they only give overtime to those who agree...).

I mean, without the law, if you work a 50-hour week and a 25-hour week 3 months apart, for those two weeks in *total* you are paid 80 hours of pay (40+15 the first week, 25 the other).

With the law, if you do the same thing using comp time, in *total* you are paid 80 hours of pay...but the extra 15 hours of pay from the 50-hour week doesn't arrive until you take it as comp time in the 25-hour week.

Why are we adding a law to have employees loan their employers money from their wages??? O.o

I think some folks think of it as "more earnest" but otherwise I see no advantage.

I sent in about the border wall yesterday, saying that as Mexico will be paying for it, no monies for its construction should be in the tax bill. (My Senators and Representative align really well with my views already, so my letters probably don't have any convincing to do - but I still want to make sure I'm heard. It does mean I feel safe in how I phrase things though. I was focused on the budget more, and they won't suddenly support the wall if only Mexico would pay.)

I'm in Toronto, Canada, and have mostly been attending pro-refugee/anti-Islamophobia rallies here, but I missed the last one (and the Science March) due to my spouse being under the weather this past week. Will try and get back on the horse.

I'm in Canada, too, and I joined the Conservative Party just so I could vote AGAINST Leitch and Trost and their ilk in the leadership race. I'm supporting Lisa Raitt.

Also I donate money every month to the Liberals and NDP - because I'll never be a Tory at heart.

The repeal of net neutrality. I mean I'm not sure we can do anything about it at this point, but I'm still pretty alarmed about it.

Couldn't agree more. :| I'm in the northwestern part of the state, so I have Amodei to contend with, too. :|
