First of all, thank you to the anonymous person who kindly gifted 6 months of paid account features to the comm, in support of us and Dreamwidth. It's very much appreciated by the mods to know that we're appreciated by the members!

The Trump campaign and its allies have had more of their ridiculous law suits slapped down by the courts, while violence by MAGA types seems to be stepping up. I hope you're all safe and that you all stay that way. At the same time, with COVID-19 cases and deaths ramping up again, I hope you're also all keeping safe and well on that front (and able to resist family pressure for inappropriate winter-time gatherings).

It's been fairly quiet in the comm since the last check-in, but obviously there's still work to be done on the Georgia run-off elections. See our last Check in post for actions.

Here are the new posts in the comm since last check-in:

Letters And Emails: Ongoing University Of California Labor Dispute
Action: Write A Letter Opposing Drilling In ANWR (Time Sensitive) (It's probably too late for most people to act on this one.)

So what have you all been up to since the last check in and what you are planning to do in the next couple of weeks?

Reminded people that the Black Lives Matter movement is not inherently anti-Semitic.

Been acting as unofficial counseling therapist for a neighbor/friend who's been going through tough times. This has been ongoing, but I *think* something is about to be done about it but don't know for certain. He's a great guy and I want to help him out to the best of my ability, but I am not a therapist and I have been telling him that and so have others. He tells us he likes his therapist and other doctors, or at least that's what he is telling most people close to the situation. But he tells me a lot more than that.

Also thank you anonymous person who gave us paid time on here! I've also gotten some paid time at my journal, so I know how that feels. Currently not, but twice in the past.

Living in Canada, I'm not (yet) directly affected by Trumpist action.

I did engage in the AGM of my preferred political party's local riding association yesterday afternoon. I forgot to vote on the new leadership of that riding association, but that's on me. Looking forward to see how the new kids move things forward in anticipation of the next provincial and federal elections.

After reading this, I wrote and mailed a letter opposing drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. It probably won't get there in time, but seemed worth spending an envelope and stamp, because it might.

Made small care packages (mostly fancy cinnamon/cumin from Burlap and Barrel for 11 sets of local friends and delivered them (two shifts of driving). Mailed care packages for 3 other sets of friends living further away.

Did my bit to enforce the expectation with my parents that no, eating together is not going to be safe this Xmas eve, but I still love you very much, and here are my presents for you both two weeks early. They've yet to engage with my email to them and other immediate family re: suggestions for remote hangouts over the holidays, but it settled me to be proactive.
