Check-in time. It’s been a little slow again, and I’ve been sick so I’ve not been online much the past couple days. How’s everyone doing?

Three easy things you can do from your computer that take 2 minutes
1.
Support #NoDAPL efforts, asking the Army Corps of Engineers not to shut down the water protectors
2. Decide if you want to participate in the
Million Woman March on January 21 (planning, obvs, will take more than 2 minutes)
3.Look up and decide if you want to
join your local Democratic Party

Two easy things that you can do from your computer that require money
1.
Donate to an organization that’s gonna need the money in the new administration. Check out comments for additional organizations. You can set up monthly donations if you have the funds.
2.
Donate to #NoDAPL efforts

One challenge-but-you-can-do-it thing you can do with your phone
1. Call your representatives and express your opinion on:
a.
Declassifying Russian involvement in the election
b.
the Presidential Accountability Act introduced by Congresswoman Katherine Clark
c.
the No Religious Registry Act introduced by Congresswoman Suzan DelBene.
d.
the Sanctuary Movement

Let us know how it’s going! Even if you haven’t done anything yet, we want to hear from you. We’re also happy to take feedback on the comm to make it smoother. We’re figuring things out as we go.

Right now, I'm trying to figure out what's a sustainable level of engagement for me, and where I want to put the energies I have.

I think I've narrowed my daily news down to one useful site (The Guardian, ymmv). Now I just need to cut back on the others to a weekly check-in, rather than circling them constantly.

I've been calling my representatives weekly, and I've taken to asking for the names of the staffers I'm talking to and saying hi to them as well. I want to build a relationship there, even if it's only an acquaintanceship.

As a CPA, I've been reaching out to others in my profession about vote auditing. I've been getting some positive feedback and several people have endorsed my idea of reaching out to the state CPA organizations, as well as the AICPA, about supporting 50-state risk-limiting audit legislation like that recently adopted in Colorado.

The Colorado risk-limiting audit legislation sounds like a fantastic development.

If things get off the ground to introduce similar legislation in other states, or on a federal basis, would you be willing to make a post about how to support those efforts? (Or point us at the right resources so we can make one?)

Once I get a little more research done, I'll put up a post on what people can do.

I've been calling and leaving voicemails about every other day to my reps about various issues. I've been using the calling scripts on "We're His Problem Now" Calling Sheet. Whenever Planned Parenthood or ACLU emails me a petition, I sign it.

I want to do more, but I have to figure my time budgeting.

Well, as you've probably heard, the #NoDAPL protests have been successful! For now, anyway - I have not heard enough details to know how robust this result is going to be long term. But still, yay! \o/

I called my congressperson this week re: the Presidential Accountability Act and the No Religious Registry Act. I also got to talk to both some like-minded people about politics this week and someone who sees things very differently but seems open to learning more about, say, racism. So support and solidarity on one hand and trying to educate people within my circle of influence on the other. Interpersonal stuff!

Regarding #NoDAPL, my understanding is that the Army Corps of Engineers has postponed a decision on granting permission to build a particular section of the pipeline along a particular route until an Environmental Impact Statement has been carried out. (Which I suspect is one of the many known ways in which the developers have failed to comply with necessary regulations.)

So pipeline construction has been delayed but not necessarily halted altogether -- although as the whole enterprise seems to be on shaky financial ground, delaying it sufficiently may be enough to kill it.

However, I believe the action to close down the Oceti Sakowin encampment and prevent people joining other camps and so on are still scheduled to go ahead, so still need to be protested.

The Army Corps of Engineers Statement is at:

And good for you on attempting to educate people you know - that's maybe the hardest work of all!

I've set up recurring monthly donations to some organizations.

Been signing lots of petitions.

I want to make some phone calls but haven't yet, partly timing and partly getting up the nerve. I did email about a couple of things, I know it's not as effective but figured it couldn't hurt.
